Digital Support for Local Non Profits!

Libraries first and foremost are a public resource.

Beyond books, libraries have provided access to new technology whether it’s the early days of the internet to modern 3D printing and maker spaces.

But with Covid-19 and the subsequent closures, we’ve been finding new ways to continue our mission online and via mail.

Prisoner Express is busier than ever – with an increase in demand as many prisoners are experiencing lock downs due to the pandemic crisis. Please learn more about how to help at prisonerexpress.org

But our newest experiment is a brand new project, the Community Impact Help Desk!

This is a new services to support local nonprofits with their website and technical issues, specifically around online events.

If we can’t create a space to gather in real life, we can help support online events and local websites.

This summer I’ve been piloting some of these services, and coming in September 2020, the services will be publicly available. These digital services range from website hosting to our new Tech Impact Help Desk to answer your questions about online events, technology, and online office hours available each week. These services will be officially available and staffed by students in Fall 2020 via support@alternativeslibrary.org

Community Supported Websites

Right now 5 community organizations are using services at the Durland Alternatives Library to host and manage their websites – and there is space for a few more (by application).

Check out the brand new website for College Initiative Upstate (CIU) at ciutompkins.org, created in partnership with our CSW project.

More info about CSW project is coming soon. But for now, if you have inquiries, please email support@alternativeslibrary.org

Tech Impact Help Desk

This is a support service for grassroots organizations, non-profits, and mutual aid projects.

You’re doing important work – so the last thing you need are technical barriers. The help desk is here to help you resolve issues when they come up so you can move forward in your work.

Become a member of the Alternatives Library to access unlimited tech support from our team.

  • Email support@alternativeslibrary.org and get help related to your website, email list, or other online media
  • Ask questions about any technical or logistical details related to your group’s administrative work.
  • If someone on our team does not have the answer directly, we’ll connect you with someone who does

Weekly Digital Media Training & Office Hours

Starting in September 2020, we will be available Tuesdays from noon to 1pm for office hours. Simply drop in during this time with questions, and check the schedule at alternativeslibrary.org/events to see any specific trainings that will be offered.

Topics are chosen based on questions and requests send to support@alternativeslibrary.org
