garlic.project1The Garlic Project, a collaboration between the Plantations Environmental Education Program for Sustainability (PEEPS), the Durland Alternatives Library, and Ithaca Children’s Garden presents this hands-on garlic planting workshop. All participants will be given garlic seed to take home and plant as well as the opportunity to learn more about garlic culture and uses.

For our common goal of reaching sustainability, garlic has many benefits.

Garlic grows exceptionally well in the Finger Lakes region. It can be grown without pesticides, and is very productive in a small space. It stores easily without an external energy source and has a long shelf life. Save seed and save money by replanting garlic every year, and enjoy your homegrown garlic year round.

The Garlic Project connects people to the food they eat through education, empowerment, and building community. Through the Garlic project we intend to add new planting sites throughout the community each year and get more people involved.

Free and Open to All Ages!

The program is free and open to all ages, and will take place in the Ithaca Children’s Garden, located on the Cass Park access road, off Route 89 in Ithaca.
