Words Set Free – Poems from Prisoners

We celebrate the publication of Poetry Anthology #15, with a live reading of some of our favorite poems from this edition. Come learn about Prisoner Express, and experience the power and the humor of poetry from behind the bars. Refreshments will be served.

Many prisoners have nothing more than pencil, paper and books to keep them engaged while in solitary confinement. Prisoner Express provides a connection for thousands of prisoners, with a dozen unique programs and correspondence services.

Words Set Free - PosterPublic Reading:

On April 13 at 7:30 pm in Anabel Taylor Hall Chapel, come share in the humanity of the many prisoners across the US by listening to students and community volunteers read some of their selected poems.

Prisoners are a diverse group and should be seen as individuals rather than a faceless number who has nothing to offer and no hope of redemption and rehabilitation.

Everyone Welcome:

Enjoy some snacks, meet other folks involved in the prison reform movement, and learn about the  Prisoner Express program and how you can get involved in helping supply prisoners with opportunities for education and creative self-expression.

Spread the word and join our event on Facebook!

Note from a published anthology contributor:

I would first off like to thank each and every one who takes time from their busy lives to help people like myself who at times feel alone. I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Now to get to my reason for writing.

On 3/3/16 I received a copy of the 2016 Prisoner Express Poetry Anthology Volume 15 and was very surprised to see my name and work. I just want to thank each and every one of y’all for showing me that good people are still out there. It’s because of people like you that I will continue to write poetry hoping to touch someone the way other people touched me.

Once again, I would like to say thank you for your time and thank you for inspiring me to want to keep writing and I pray that God allows me to go far with my words. May God bless you and yours and once again, thank you.

Yours Truly,

William Nettles
