Prisoner Express Program
The Prisoners Express program sponsored by the Durland
Alternatives Library promotes rehabilitation by offering
inmates information, education and the opportunity for
creative self-expression in a public forum. Participation
in this program fosters self-exploration, enrichment
and knowledge. The Durland Alternatives Library has
a number of ongoing programs as parts of its Prisoners
Express project.
Through our Books in Prison program we mail books directly
to inmates. We are always accepting book and postage
donations to keep this component of the program thriving.
Books sent to prisoners provide a lifeline to folks
struggling to maintain their connection to free society
and the world of ideas. Education provided by books
is a valuable component of a criminal justice system
geared toward the rehabilitation of its inmates. The
most common request is for dictionaries.
In order to help this library program, we are seeking
donations from community members and beyond who would
like to support our work. Any amount that you can give
is greatly appreciated.
